Is this normal?? I started on Monday at 182. Tuesday was 183. This a.m. was 179.5!! Is that normal?? I make sure I weigh myself as soon as I get up only in my undies so it's the same every day. Is this water weight? Can I expect it to go up in the next couple of days? I just want to make sure I'm not losing any muscle (while I love seeing the scale go down).
I know I shouldn't be weighing myself every day or even judging my progress by the scale...but it's just a habit and curiosity. I have a pair of jeans that I will be using to measure my fat loss since I don't know how to use those stupid calipers!

Weight will vary for many different reasons. The fact that you weigh yourself at the same time probably helps, but weight on a day-to-day basis is going to fluctuate a lot. Too much weighing will drive a sane person crazy. I try to limit my weigh-ins to once a month. This way i always achieve a loss and I don't ever have to see my weight go up (which I find to be discouraging).
Because you are just getting going again most initial weight loss will be water and so there is a possibility you might lose quiet a few more pounds in the first few weeks than you will in your average week later in the challenge. Don't worry about losing muscle, you should be alright if you are eating 5 or 6 healthy meals a day like you stated in a previous post and getting plenty of protein. My first week of working out (early July), I dropped 4 lbs relatively easy. At this point I just hope for 1 or 2 lbs a week.

I experience weight shifts like that all the time. That does happen quite a bit for me. My weight on a chart looks a lot like the movement of stock prices. Over time, you'll steadily keep weight off.
